News Channel 3 WMMT, May 5, 2020

RICHLAND, Mich. — Gull Lake Middle School one of 176 middle schools across the United States to be recognized as a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School.

Project Lead the Way representatives said in a written statement Tuesday, May 5, 2020, that the school was recognized because of the opportunities it provided to students in the science, technology, engineering and math fields through the organization's software, Project Lead The Way Gateway. The software is similar to projects assigned by teachers in the classroom setting.

“It is a great honor to recognize Gull Lake Middle School for their commitment to providing students with an excellent educational experience,” Vince Bertram, president and CEO of Project Lead the Way, said. “They should be very proud of their work to ensure students have the knowledge and skills to be career ready and successful on any career path they choose.”

To be eligible for the designation, Gull Lake Middle School had to:
  • Offer at least one PLTW Gateway unit at each grade level
  • Have more than 50% of the student body participating during the 2018-19 school year
  • Have strategies and supports in place that facilitate reasonably proportional representation with regard to race, ethnicity, poverty and gender and can support claims with relevant data

Project Lead the Way is a nonprofit organization that supports STEM learning in more than 12,200 schools across the United States.
