The Year of Science ran throughout the 2014-2015 school year and began with a Science and Engineering Festival on November 7-8, 2014, featuring the Mind Trekkers Roadshow. This event was open to GL students and area middle school students on November 7 and to the public on November 8.
The GLCS Foundation collaborated with community partners to provide exciting programs throughout the year. “We are very fortunate to have the community’s support for our Year of Science,” said Becky Eldridge, Spark Series Co-Chair. “We’ve been astounded by community organizations’ enthusiasm toward the Year of Science. It was a really fun year!” |
“The broader scope of the Spark Series provides a wide variety of opportunities to help Gull Lake students and staff prepare for success,” commented Sarah Sandell, GLCS Foundation Chair. “This Year of Science is a perfect example of that. It touched upon the very fields that create innovation and in which the U.S. is lagging. Students in 24 other nations, perform better than U.S. Students in science (PISA 2009 Key Findings, 2010)—this is a nationally recognized crisis. This year-long event helped students develop an interest in STEM disciplines throughout their Gull Lake education, college and careers.”
