Kasey Scott (Class of 1998)
His website highlighting his marine art: here
From his bio page:
Introducing the newest marine artist, Kasey Scott! If you
appreciate art and love to fish, then you will love Kasey Scott's work. Kasey is an extremely talented artist and has recently launched KSCOTTunderwater original art and apparel.
Kasey Scott grew up on one of Michigan's true treasures, Gull Lake. Located just outside of Kalamazoo, Gull Lake is one of the best fishing lakes in the State of Michigan. It's also the place where Kasey's father introduced him to the world of fishing and diving. From a very young age, his family spent Spring Breaks down in the Florida Keys where his every waking hour was spent fishing and diving. His days were filled chasing Tarpon, Snapper, Grouper and any creature willing to put up a fight. During those magical days he fell in love with the ocean, its mysteries and its creatures.
Kasey won many awards for his art throughout his early years and
high School. However, when it came time to choose a field of study in college he chose business over art, in part, because it partnered better with his love for the game of golf. He played college golf and professionally on the Mini Tour circuits after graduation. After 6 years of dedication and frustration on the golf circuit he decided to take a break from the game he loved to pursue his other passions, his art and the environs of the lakes and oceans.
And here he is today, KSCOTTUNDERWATER, where his passion for art and water have come together.

I am an alumnus of Gull lake High school class of 2004. I recently graduated from Defiance College (Ohio) with my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education. I just recently got hired at the Defiance Area YMCA as the Sports and Fitness Director. I am in charge of putting together, organizing, and running sport programs for youth and adult members of the Defiance Community. Anyone who knew of me in high school knows that this is a perfect job for me.
I played 4 years of football at the collegiate level. I was a 4 year starter at many different positions. I started my freshman year at quarterback, then I moved to defensive back. Then my sophomore year I moved back to quarterback, then to running back, then eventually to wide receiver. I also returned kickoffs and punts during my years at Defiance College. I finished my college career with about 3000 all purpose yards and 8 touchdowns, (1 passing, 2 kickoff returns, and 5 receiving).
I just wanted to send an email to this website because I stumbled onto it today as I was looking up Gull Lake. Please keep my updated with flyers on what is happening.

I miss Michigan! That state was very good to me, and gave me many friends and experiences that I’ll have for the rest of my life. For the last two years I’ve been living in New York, studying Recorded Music at New York University. The city is quite the change from Richland, but it fits me well. And I’ve had a lot of Gull Lake visitors (Brent Ellis, Mike Engle, Callie Brown, Sean Gabrielli, Tena Auton, Danny Rey, Annie Jennings…) My sister lives and works here and my Dad takes all the New York work he can – my Mom tags along ☺ I live in a small studio apartment – which, as you can imagine, is extremely overpriced - with one roommate, an actor who happens to be from Ann Arbor. I have mostly been studying music production, songwriting, engineering, and music business (hopefully there will still be a music business when I graduate). I have also been getting a lot into film – film scoring, screenwriting, and cinema studies. That’s basically my life right now, school. Wish I had some crazy stories for you. Over spring break I made my first real trip overseas, to Florence. I spent an amazing weekend in Ischia, an island off the coast from Naples, and celebrated my girlfriend’s birthday in Morocco. Quite the eye-opener. Made me seriously consider studying abroad next year. I’d like to go to Florence and learn some Italian – hopefully get hooked up with the music scene there. A couple of my teachers do a lot of work in France and it seems like it’d be really good to have another place to escape to. But that’s all up in the air. Currently I am losing my mind, trying to schedule the rest of my time before I graduate. This summer I plan to study music theory and declare a Music Minor. (I know, right? Recorded Music with a Minor in Music… just trust me, it makes sense.) Applying for an internship with Wayne Cohen and Stand Up Songs, a songwriter / producer here in New York. I’m also hoping to work on an album with Michael Manney, who is also a Gull Lake grad, now at Michigan State. So that’s me and that’s my life... P.S. This website is very cool. Thanks for getting these updates. It’s fun to hear about what people are doing these days, post G.L.-------------------------------------

Participation in inter-collegiate athletics as a member of the Indiana University Men’s soccer team was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. Initially, it was an adjustment in many different ways to make the jump from Gull Lake High School to one of the most storied programs in college soccer. From a soccer standpoint it took time to acclimate to such a high level. Adapting to a new coach, teammates, style of play and more competition for playing time was an eye-opener. Not to mention, having to juggle all the other aspects of college. Being away from home for the first time and a new sense of “freedom” has its pros and cons. You learn to fend for yourself and gain many life skills such as time management, discipline and responsibility. On the other hand there is no one to hold you accountable and make sure that you are going to class, getting rest and making proper decisions off the field. There were some growing pains in the first year but I learned a lot about myself and matured tremendously as a soccer player, student and person over the course of my four years.
Overall, I was very fortunate at Indiana to be able to balance things relatively well but there were days when I felt overwhelmed dealing with the stresses of school and pressures of playing at a top Division 1 program. To keep focused it was important for me to set goals for myself and maintain high standards throughout the years. These can be short term or long term but having goals helps to keep you on track and will provide a platform for which you can stay dedicated, determined and disciplined to succeed. The best advice I would give to someone entering college as a student athlete is to work hard, believe in yourself and be patient through the peaks and valleys. When I made the decision to attend IU most people told me I would never play. My freshmen year I started out on the bench and by my senior year I was one of the top players in college soccer and playing for a national championship. If you want something bad enough and are willing to work hard to make it happen, the sky’s the limit for anyone. I approach my life after college the same exact way. After a brief stint playing professionally in Major League soccer I was forced to retire at the age of 25 because of a career ending knee injury. Immediately, I shifted my energies into coaching and dedicated myself to becoming the best “teacher of the game” I could be. After 6 years as an assistant coach at my alma mater, Indiana University, I was hired as the Head Coach at the University of Akron. My passion now is helping my players reach their potential and achieve their dreams.
I have been blessed in my life thus far to accomplish many things but I will always look back on my time at Gull Lake with very fond memories. What I remember most are the summers and boating on the lake with friends. And of course scoring goals for the blue devils! I am married and have my first child on the way so I hope to show them someday what a beautiful place I grew up in!

Hi guys! If you don't remember, I am the president of the class of 2006. Right now I am in my sophomore year at Michigan State University and loving it! I hope you all are enjoying life outside of Gull Lake as much as I am. As much as I love being on my own and in a new town, Gull Lake will always be the place I call home. I have some great memories from my time at that school and I miss all of you, (even though I know we all got sick of each other and at times couldn't wait to get out of there)! I hope we can all stay in touch at least a little as we move further and further away from that date we all graduated from Gull Lake High School.
I am really excited about this new website, and although most of us have Facebook and connect with that amazing invention ;), just the thought of trying to find all of you scares me! Whether you want to stay at Gull Lake forever or you want to move as far away as possible, please stop by here at least once in a while because all of you are important to me!
Good luck with all of your new adventures through life and the "real world" and I look forward to seeing you all at our first class reunion!... (Kind of weird to be saying that already, huh?)
Much Love,
Jessica Hoffman

I graduated from GLHS in 1976, the big bi-centennial year. We were the Class of ’76 and celebrated with patriotic colors and themes. I was active in cheerleading, student senate, and French Club. I have very fond memories of being a student at Gull Lake. My husband Tim (’73) also graduated from Gull Lake, although we didn’t start dating until college.
It has been a pleasure to watch our three children Stephanie (06), Elizabeth (08) and Sara (12) progress through our alma mater.
Now, it is rewarding to be employed by Gull Lake as their School Nurse. It is my unique privilege to assist students here with their health concerns and hopefully help put a little extra focus on health and wellness into the school environment. Gull Lake Schools has been a wonderful place in which to grow up and now raise a family.

As you may know, I have a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan (2005) and am currently at Georgetown University Law Center (J.D. expected 2009). I’m in my second year at Georgetown Law. My dream is to make the world a better place by finding ways for corporations to pay less in income tax. The Law Center is located Washington, DC, which is a great place to live and work. I am just a few minutes away from the Capitol, the White House and dozens of other landmarks and museums.
The study of law is both difficult and intellectually stimulating. One of the most important skills I have learned is multitasking. For example, most of the students in my class are able to check their e-mail, browse Facebook, chat on the instant messenger, and still follow the class discussion well enough to be prepared in case they are called on. Most professors use the Socratic method, which in its pure form involves “cold calling” where a random student is asked a series of questions by the professor. Although the system can be frightening at first, everybody gets used to it after a few months, and it helps keep everybody on their toes and facilitates some interesting class discussions.
For example, as I am writing this, our tax class is discussing how certain gifts are treated in the computation of gross income. Come to think of it, that is not interesting at all. Regardless, going to law school in DC is a great experience.
Here's a recent picture of myself and my girlfriend, Jessica Paciorek, a 1st year medical student at Georgetown. Also, I am happy to answer any questions for Gull Lake students or grads who are considering either living in DC or attending Georgetown Law. Good luck with the website!
Cheers,
Kyle Gooch

Life has been quite different after leaving Gull Lake High School. For the last five years I have been at Ferris State University. This was an amazing growing period for me to learn more about myself. I was on my own and making my own decisions. Life at Ferris was focused around class, friends, driving home, and getting use to being accountable. Being accountable for all for the decisions that I made was one of the biggest learning curves in college.
The most important thing I gained from being in college is my relationship with God. It was now up to me to go to Church and to keep following the faith that my parents had been teaching me from an infant. God blessed me with a group of students known as the Newman Center for Catholic Students at Ferris State University. After meeting people my own age and seeing the fire for their own personal relationships with God, it challenged me to do the same.
After being with the Newman Center for two years and graduating from Ferris in May of 2007, I decided to enter the seminary. I am now currently in Columbus, OH at the Pontifical College of Josephinum studying to become a Catholic priest. My life after Gull Lake High School has led to places that I never dreamed after graduating in 2002. As long as we follow our hearts and acknowledge that there is someone higher guiding us to do what is right, we will find peace in our lives.
Of course there are a few aspects of Gull Lake High School that will always be missed: the football and soccer games, spending time with friends, driving to school with my first car, surviving one of the biggest senior pranks in history, and many more. High school was an important time in my life and I am very thankful to have spent it at Gull Lake with all of the teachers, coaches, administrators, parents, and friends.
Thank you to all!

I graduated in 2006 from Gull Lake High School. Gull Lake will always be the place I call home because that is where my heart is due to family, friends and the community. It warms my heart when I think about all of the memories we created there. I am presently completing my sophomore year at Michigan State University where I am studying to become an elementary school teacher, with a minor in Spanish and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). I am really looking forward to next year when I actually get to be in the classroom setting. While at Michigan State, I have had the opportunity to compete on the MSU gymnastics team. This has been wonderful because I truly love the sport and enjoy being part of a smaller “community” within such a large school. I have had such great support from the Gull Lake community at both home and away meets. Thank you so much! You remind me how blessed I am to have been a part of Gull Lake. I love coming back home to visit--- everyone goes out of their way to welcome me home and inquire about my life after high school. Thank you!

I am a 1989 graduate of GLHS and a 1995 graduate of WMU. I am currently teaching 5th grade at Ryan Intermediate. It is amazing how many alumni I see, and how many of their children I am now teaching.
After graduating from Western I married Brian (Parchment '89). We have two children, Jacob and Alaina. We enjoy the fact that we live in the area and are able to attend school events and see old friends.
Life at Gull Lake is much the same as it was when I was in school. The parent support of our students is incredible. I enjoyed being a student at Gull Lake and am thrilled with the opportunity to continue being a "Gull Laker."

After graduating in 2004, my life has been a real adventure. I began at Michigan State University the same fall and chose finance as my major fairly early. Immediately following my freshman year I studied abroad in Querétaro, México. MSU prides itself in the study abroad program, and you cannot go to school in East Lansing and get far without hearing of countless opportunities to study outside the US. So I gave it a try; I lived with an incredible Mexican family and did an intensive six credit Spanish study over a nine week period. My Spanish capabilities when I arrived were somewhat elementary, but upon departure I had improved immensely.
I spent the following two years living off campus with friends both from high school and those I had met from classes and the dorms as well. My work load became progressively harder, as one would expect, over the semesters, and I was forced to learn to study efficiently, have good time management, and weigh priorities. I am not sure if I have faced harder obstacles than living with a group of persuasive girls who never seem to have to study at the same time I do!
Spring semester 2007 of my junior year, I reserved to study abroad a second time, and I could not be more fulfilled with my experience. I chose Quito, Ecuador. I studied Spanish grammar, Spanish literature, and Management. But beyond school, I obliquely studied cultures; of my Ecuadorian family, of the homeless people on the street, of the indigenous and so much more. I studied language in a macro sense, I learned geology majors while I hiked some of the ten volcanoes surrounding Quito, I learned anthropology as I stayed with the Huarani tribe on the weekend, but most rewarding was realizing I was not even aware of a tenth of what I was capable of until I could look back in hindsight and feel that it should never have been scary to begin with.
After my semester came to a close I spent the following six weeks with my best friend from the trip traveling through Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Columbia, and finally arrived back to the US after six months in July. I now live with a few girls off campus once again, and I am working hard to finish another demanding semester well, and I plan to graduate this May of 2008 with a BA in finance and a specialization in international studies. I have begun applying for jobs, but I would be lying if I did not admit I am fighting procrastination due to my fear of no longer being a student. I would ideally like to work abroad for a few years, either with finance, marketing or with language education.
It is hard to believe I have already been away from Gull Lake High School almost as long as I studied there. I have come to realize since I graduated, how lucky I was to have been raised in such an incredible place, to have been, and still be, a part of so many warm families, encouraged by a number of supportive and hopeful coaches, and to have been taught by such amazing educators.

The Gull Lake Community has been a wonderful place to reside and work. I have lived in the area for many years and have watched the community grow and develop. I myself attended Gull Lake Schools and now my children are also attending. The school system has changed dramatically over the past two years and has seen several new additions with the new high school, renovations, and technology upgrades.
Gull Lake has become very competitive academically and athletically. As a fourth grade teacher in the school system, I am impressed with the academics that are offered and the potential that we have with all the new technology. It is truly a wonderful community to live and work in.
