Larry Gene "Shag" Anthony, 64, of Battle Creek, formerly of Richland, died at Rose Arbor Hospice, Kalamazoo, on Tuesday, April 15, 2008

He was born in Battle Creek on January 6, 1944 and was the son of Herbert J. and Lucille M. (Gould) Anthony.  Larry grew up in the Augusta/Hickory Corners area and was a 1963 graduate of the former W.K. Kellogg High School.  In 2008 he retired from Gull Lake Area Community Schools, where he was employed as a Custodial Engineer for 21 years.  He was formerly employed by Richland Plated Plastic Company as a Maintenance Engineer. On April 23, 2004, he was married in Mt. Pleasant, MI to Darlene Kay Ford.  Surviving is his wife, Darlene; his step-daughter: Tammy and husband, Tim George and family; his sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne Kay and Horst Ruckert  and two sons: Eric and Brant of Suwanee, GA; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vickie and Habib Atallah and their daughter, Laura of Lansing, MI  and Thomas Anthony's surviving sons: Monty and Mark.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. 
Larry was a member of Solid Rock Bible Church in Delton.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking.  He was a creative "Master Putterer."   Larry was exceptionally organized, made his stories very interesting and had a very positive can-do attitude that he encouraged in others.  He was a perfectionist who would tackle any project and no one was ever a stranger to him or someone he wouldn't help. At the request of the family, friends may call on Thursday, April 17th and Friday, April 18th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue, Richland, MI, (269-629-6022).   The funeral service to celebrate Larry's life will be held on Saturday, April 19th  at the Richland Chapel with the Rev. Roger A. Claypool, Pastor of the Solid Rock Bible Church of Delton, MI, officiating.  Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland, MI.   Memorial contributions in Larry's honor may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI. 49007 or to the Solid Rock Bible Church, 7025 Milo Road, Delton, MI, 49046

Randy C. Slack, 59, of Richland

Died Monday, February 4, 2008 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He was born October 3, 1948 in Plainwell, the son of Charles A. and Betty J. (Wearmouth) Slack. He grew up at Sherman Lake, Augusta and graduated from Gull Lake High School in 1966. He was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in combat.On December 13, 1969 Randy C. Slack became united in marriage to Susan L. Maguffee in Lawton OK. In addition to his wife Susan, Randy is survived by his daughter, Kerri Slack, sons, Shane and Cody Slack, grandson Austin,granddaughter, Skyler Slack all of Richland, his mother Betty Slack of Augusta, sisters, Wendy (Dave) Orbeck of Delton, Lori (Mike) Hite of Climax, Kim (Keith) Blaisdell of Comstock and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and close friends. Randy loved the outdoors, boats and old cars. He was recently building a "38" Ford pickup from spare parts, an accomplishment he was proud of. He worked at Stryker as a machinist, until his retirement in 1998 due to health. At the request of the family a memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Yorkville Community Church with Rev. Shan Martin officiating. Interment of cremains will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the church, Disabled American Veterans or to the Slack family. Arrangements are by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel, 9170 East D. Ave. Richland, MI 49083.
